There are plenty of activities your HOA can arrange to help boost morale and camaraderie in the community. Of course, some tend to be more seasonal like garage sales and BBQs. But there are others that can be done throughout the year.
When trying to build community and arrange activities, it’s important to consider an HOA Facebook group. Does your community have one of these groups where homeowners can connect with one another and board members can share information? If not, start there. You can use this community group as a place to start building a good rapport and share activity ideas with the community.
Once you have your community group on Facebook, consider some fun activities that your members may enjoy. The pandemic may make this a little trickier, but there are still plenty of ways your community can engage with one other. For example, virtual clubs and workshops can be offered to allow members to participate from the comfort of home. A scavenger hunt can be another fun idea for those with kids. A list could be created with things like a birdbath, a certain decoration on a porch, or a stuffed animal sitting in a window. You might also want to arrange a parade of cars for holidays or special occasions to boost community spirit.
You could also arrange a volunteer day or a fundraiser to help give back to society. For example, you could find a local community organization accepting volunteers. During the holidays, you could host a gift drive or consider using an outdoor tree to hang several tags on for community members to choose and buy gifts for.
Another fun way to engage your community and bring out a little competition is to have a decorating contest. You could highlight community members with the best holiday decorations. You could also choose something like the best Christmas tree or jack-o-lantern to highlight. Winners could be featured on your community Facebook group.
There are plenty of ways to keep your community engaged even when it’s a little chillier outside and there’s a pandemic going on. It just takes a little creativity and know-how.
