Parties can be fun, but they can quickly get out of hand. And when there’s a bunch of people on your property who you don’t know, it can be alarming. It’s understandable if you’re concerned about something getting damaged.
If you prefer not to allow parties on your property, make sure that your guests are aware. This rule should even be stated in your listing. This way if someone is looking for a house to host a party at, they’ll know immediately that your rental is out of the question. Keep in mind, there may be some people who don’t read the listing or aren’t deterred, so it’s a good idea to take additional measures.
Establishing a two-night minimum policy for bookings can reduce the chance of someone staying at your property for a party. If you want to allow single-night stays, then you may want to ask a few questions like why the renter is interested in only booking one night.
Having outdoor security cameras can help protect your property and allow you to be informed if there are a lot of people going in and out of your rental. Something as simple as a video doorbell can be beneficial. Just be sure you alert guests if there are any security cameras on the premises.
Keep in mind that any house rules you have should be clearly spelled out in the rental agreement. Guests should be aware if there are quiet hours and if you have a no-party rule.
Make sure your guests know what to expect if someone violates any of the house rules. Clearly state if you charge extra fees if anything is damaged or there is excessive cleaning required.
It’s not a bad idea to get to know the neighbors of your short-term rental unit either. When you have a good relationship with your neighbors, they will be more likely to alert you (instead of the police) if there is a noise violation or a party happening. PMI Destin also uses several noise monitoring sensors that alert us and guests at pre-set decibel levels.
Taking a few precautions and being clear about the house rules, can reduce the likelihood of guests taking advantage of your property.
